Matter of Interpretation 2009/10
This is an installation consisting of several elements based on the concepts of value and worth across cultures using castings of rocks from Kenya and making gold leafed replicas reflecting the experiences of my recent trip to Nigeria. It also displays recurrent themes of binary opposition, in this case by a visual comparison between the rocks; one being authentic, natural and of special personal significance, and the other fake, conveying greed and wealth, but at the same time generally seen as a valuable commodity. Embodied in this particular installation are art historical inferences as well as references to volatile elements of Nigerian culture.
